Wanted: Farmer to Front for the Nation's Elite

The Institute for the Preservation of Dynastic Wealth is seeking a former family farmer to serve as our new spokesperson.

The search coincides with the hearings on the Estate Tax being held by the Senate Finance Committee on November 14th.

"This search is the latest chapter in a decade-long effort to find a flesh and blood example of the oft-repeated claim that the Estate Tax hurts family farms," said Ivana Nutheryacht, senior fellow at IPDW. "We expect Sen. Jon Kyl (R-AZ) will be using this well-worn but never-proven talking point, so we thought we'd help by finally making the search public."

The need for an actual farmer reached a new urgency last May when presidential candidate Rudolph W. Giuliani was forced to cancel a press conference with an Iowa farm family. At the last minute his campaign aides realized that with a mere 80 acres, the family was not actually rich enough to be affected by the tax.

The search officially begins November 5, 2007, and will last ten days, ending November 14th, 2007, the day of the hearings chaired by Senators Max Baucus (D-MT) and Chuck Grassley (R-IA).

Qualified candidates must be an heir of a family farm that had to be sold to pay the Estate Tax.

Are you the stuff of legend? Some political movements are looking for a silver bullet. Our quest is akin to finding a needle in a haystack. Is that haystack on your farm?

Eligibility:
  • * Transfer of estate occurred after 2001.
  • * The heirs wanted to continue farming.
  • * Entire farm was sold to pay the federal Estate Tax.
  • * Estate executor valued the farm-land at its agricultural use price, not its commercial/development price.

Timeline:
The search will last for two weeks, ending November 14, 2007.

What you win:

The winning candidate, if any is found (fingers crossed), will serve as the repeal movement's new spokesperson. Winners will be featured in brochures, TV ads, and other campaign materials to abolish the Estate Tax. In addition, qualifying candidates will receive a gift bag filled with items from the 18 wealthy families funding the "movement" to repeal the Estate Tax, including a jug of wine from the Gallo Estates, a candy bar from the Mars family, and something kind of nice, but plastic, from the Wal-Mart heirs.
