The lucky winner gets to testify before Congress on Nov 14th!
The gulf between talking point and reality has never been a problem until recently. The first time was last May, when presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani was forced to cancel a press conference with an Iowa farm family who, with a mere 80-acres, were not actually rich enough to be affected by the tax. Our search reached a new urgency last month when Sen. Jon Kyl (R-AZ) put forth his repeal bill and the Emergency Campaign for America’s Priorities called him out, demanding that he produce a farmer who lost his or her farm due to paying the Estate Tax. Sen. Kyl pulled his bill quietly, but our fight continues. On Wednesday, November 14th, the Senate Finance Committee will be holding hearings on whether to repeal the Estate Tax and we need your help! The Institute for the Preservation of Dynastic Wealth (IPDW.org), a coalition of wealthy heirs and heiresses lobbying for repeal of the Estate Tax, is seeking a family farmer to serve as our new spokesperson. This search is the latest chapter in a decade-long effort to find a flesh-and-blood example of the oft-repeated claim that the Estate Tax hurts family farms. The winning candidate, if found (fingers crossed), will receive a gift bag filled with items from some of the 18 wealthy estates behind the campaign to repeal the Estate Tax, including a jug of wine from the Gallo Estates, a candy bar from the Mars family, and something "kind of nice, but plastic" from the Wal-Mart heirs. Winners will also be featured in brochures, TV ads, and other campaign materials to abolish the Estate Tax.
